Park Historical
In 1977, an archeological study of the area surrounding our lake and park was conducted by Joe Williams of the Texas Historical Commission when the park was “under construction.” The study consisted of a survey and testing at the City of Live Oak Park and several interesting things were discovered. The study referred to them as Prehistoric sites and the work was conducted by the University of Texas at San Antonio. Their report states that they found “occupational evidence in the form of chert tools and debitage, land and mussel shell, and burned rock appeared in….” Much of the report is redacted by the organization so it leaves many questions for an observer of this report in modern times.
It does state that, “Due to the valuable preliminary indications of research at this site, it is considered to be of importance to warrant National Register nomination.” We have no information that it was ever submitted or if it received this notoriety.
